We are an Italian-American choir in Boston's historic North End |
Choral Society Biography:
The St. Leonard Choral Society is a a non-profit organization of people who love to sing and create music! The choir was first established in 1873 when the church of St. Leonard was built in Boston. The choirs were primarily a group of parishioners who enjoyed singing for Mass. Since the first parish Christmas concert organized by maestro Dan Drzymalski in 2007, the choral society has grown and now has a tradition of performing a Christmas concert each year at Sacred Heart church. In 2008, they recorded a CD of Christmas music. Now that the choir has grown, we perform together with the North End Chamber Orchestra, who provide a wonderful addition to the choir music. In addition, the choir has developed a tradition of doing joint concerts with the Our Lady of Czestochowa Church choir and the St. John's School choir. Do you want to join the choir or orchestra? Whatever your level of experience, the St. Leonard Choral Society and the North End Chamber Orchestra offers the chance to learn sacred music, often of Italian origin, and perform in settings created and supported by decades of immigrant families in Boston's historic North End. We also welcome non-musicians interested in supporting the choir and orchestra by helping with ticket sales, designing and distributing advertising, etc. You need not be Italian or Catholic to join; a desire to help preserve the heritage of this unique community and to promote peace are all we ask. Rehearsals are most often on Saturday or Sunday afternoons in the North End. Complete the form below and we will contact you promptly. We look forward to meeting you!

Our mission is to promote peace through music |
Mission Statement: The goal of the St. Leonard Choral Society is to promote peace and love through the performance of beautiful music. Given the roots of the choir, we have a special focus on promoting Italian music and performing in historically Italian venues in Boston. At the same time, recognizing the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all people in Boston, we work together with other ethnic choirs in Boston to promote world peace and harmony of all. The latin words, "Dona Nobis Pacem," mean "Give Us Peace." The choir's trademark song, "Dona Nobis Pacem" by world-famous composer Christopher Gainey, was debuted in May 2013. Through performance of this and other pieces of music, the choir hopes to promote this ideal.
